The hardest part of pet ownership is saying goodbye. Dr. Lee provides your pet a compassionate and less stressful final veterinary visit in the comfort of your own home. Often the decision to say goodbye is due to a medical condition with a poor prognosis, or simply a gradual decline and loss of quality of life over time. Similar to hospice care, creating a plan for a peaceful ending helps to give you some control over this life changing event.
High Tide Veterinary Services offers in-home euthanasia to the Lake Tahoe area. Areas served include Donner Summit, Serene Lakes, Truckee, Tahoe City, Homewood, Tahoma, Kings Beach, Blue Canyon, Alta, Colfax, and all the areas in between. Other areas such as Loyalton, Sierraville, Portola, Clio, Quincy, South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Zephyr Cove, and Downieville will incur an extended travel fee. Other locations may be considered upon request.
End of life service includes an exam to determine the best method of euthanasia. Sedation, anesthesia, and pain medication will be given to ensure your pet’s passing is as dignified and comfortable as possible. An overdose of anesthetic will then be given so that your pet passes peacefully. After care options include communal, partitioned, or private cremation. A keepsake ink and/or clay paw print and lock of hair can be provided if desired.
If you are unsure whether it is time to say goodbye to your beloved family member, or have a nervous or difficult to handle pet, a quality of life assessment can be scheduled to discuss your pet’s current condition and options. These visits start at $300 in home, or $150 phone consult.
End of life visits, including travel to your home, an exam, sedation, and euthanasia, start at $400. Extra fees will be added for pets 100lbs and over, fractious/difficult to handle pets, extended travel from Soda Springs, after hours appointments, and additional keepsake items.
After care for pets under 25lbs with communal cremation starts at $150. Fees increase with size of animal and election of partitioned or private cremation. Ashes and keepsakes can be picked up from Soda Springs or Reno at no charge in 2-3 weeks, or delivered by mail for a small fee.
